About

Your Practitioner – Katrina Werren

My name is Katrina Werren and I run The Green Physic which is a herbal medicine clinic based on our family farm in North Cornwall. I trained at University for four years to become a qualified Medical Herbalist.

Medical Herbalist MNIMH BSc (Hons) Herbal Medicine

I am a fully registered and insured member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists (NIMH). As part of my studies I gained over 500 hours of practical clinical experience in the Stratford centre of Herbal Medicine and Whipps Cross Hospital in London. Whilst studying, I trained in many areas much the same as a conventional medical degree including clinical physical examination, anatomy and physiology, differential diagnosis, pharmacy, pathology and pharmacology.

TraditioIMG_Carrot-2_smnal uses of plants combined with modern scientific knowledge

As part of my practice I specialise in combining knowledge of the traditional uses of plants with modern scientific knowledge to formulate individual treatment approaches for a wide range of conditions. A consultation at The Green Physic will follow the principles and diagnostic techniques of orthodox medicine but with the valuable asset of additional time. It is this additional time that facilitates a genuinely two-way discussion about your health concerns, a relaxed consultation atmosphere and enables me as a healthcare practitioner to truly understand your particular health needs and tailor my treatment approach to you. With treatment I seek to try and address the underlying causes of disease in a holistic approach rather than just suppressing symptoms, as an effect helping to restore patients back to health and vitality.

High quality medicines produced from our own organic medicinal herb garden

As The Green Physic is based on a farm, I am lucky enough to have my own organic medicinal herb garden. I am passionate about growing my own herbs, and make most of the herbal medicines used in the clinic, ensuring locally produced high quality sustainable herbal medicines. Trying to use mainly native plants is a keen interest of mine as well as exploring the use of herbs for a preventative approach to health care. Outside of working as a Medical Herbalist, I work as an Outdoor pursuit’s instructor and have a love for being out and active in the great outdoors. This has led me to an interest in expanding the abilities of herbal medicine to aid sports performance and treating exercise related musculoskeletal injuries with herbal medicines. I also enjoy crafting wild food products from the hedgerows, these are for sale in our own Farm shop.

Walks, Talks and Courses

Throughout the year I often organise herbal hedgerow walks and a variety of introductory herbal medicine courses. Accommodation is available on the farm. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to find out more, have any questions or to book a consultation.
